Adams Allegro
Calyx Ware introduced c. 1930s at Percy Adams behest is fine earthenware, green glazed to simulate the ancient delicate celadon glazes (an un-even shading of blue and green) used by the Chinese – dating from the Sung Dynasty (960-1279 AD).
The hand painted Allegro Calyx Ware middle design features three bright flowers and two leaves while the border has four single flowers connected by a red draped ribbon. Adams & Sons was purchased by Wedgwood on 1st January 1966 and maintained such Calyx Ware patterns as ‘Allegro,’ however the pattern was withdrawn completely after metal release regulations came into effect in the 1970s and the entire Calyx Ware ranges suffered from Britain’s cleaner air requirement
