• About Evesham Gold

  Evesham Gold, named after the local fruit growing region near Worcester, was developed by Royal Worcester in 1961 amid a new trend for informal dining that was to bring the humble casserole dish from the kitchen to the dining table!

  The design was in the tradition of still life fruit compositions, which had be used for centuries to test a painter's skill. Therefore, it was a natural progression that Royal Worcester artists should develop the same skills. Within the Evesham Gold design, apples, pears, cherries, damsons, and blackberries are just a few of the colourful fruit sprays. The original painted fruit sprays were painted by Professor Baker, Ronald Van Ruyckevelt, Peter Ewence, and others in the Royal Worcester Design department.

  Once the original designs were complete, they were faithfully reproduced using an eighteenth-century technique incorporating lithographic stones that were painstakingly registered by hand in a stippled dot engraving method to reveal an impression of the original artwork for transfer to the ceramic ware.

  The artwork was produced in 26 colours, using lithographic prints, and the rich fruit pattern had become increasingly popular. By 1965, a wide variety of porcelain cookware was available! It's known that in 1992, Evesham could be seen in one in five homes in the UK. The extensive range has made its way into homes all over the world, and it still remains popular today amongst china enthusiasts.

  SoooFeb 17thGBRWanted to buy this specific item as a present, as Mum used to have these and we wanted to try using one again. Just as described and pictured and good price for Royal Worcester. There was a choice of both quality (“good”/ “new” etc) description and type of lid and item price reflects this. Would recommend and I’m sure I’ll use this company again to find other makers and items I’d like as a childhood memory piece.
