  Calico once again demonstrates the beauty of Burleigh and the fine quality of traditional pottery craftsmanship. Printed from hand using cut copper engravings in a deep rich blue, this permanent decoration applied underglaze is dishwasher and detergent proof and safe for use in a microwave. Produced Burleigh Blue Calico is one of the manufacturer’s most recognisable patterns, produced in England using Burleigh’s traditional tissue transfer printing technique. First introduced in 1968, the design features an intricate all-over floral motif in deep cobalt blue set against a white earthenware body.

  The pattern draws inspiration from 19th-century chinoiserie and calico textile designs, reflecting Burleigh’s long association with historic decorative styles. Blue Calico continues to be produced today at the Middleport Pottery in Stoke-on-Trent, maintaining the company’s longstanding craft traditions.
