Vintage Oven-to-Tableware

When you’re feeding a crowd, hearty dishes such as casseroles, lasagnes and shepherd’s pies will always go down well, and with autumn here/nearly here (depending on your point of view), it’s the perfect time for these family favourites to make an appearance. Meals such as these are easier to prepare and serve when you use ‘oven to tableware’, something that came into fashion in the 1960s and has been a kitchenware staple ever since.
Wedgwood embraced the emergence of the ‘social kitchen’ and the shift towards functionality all those years ago, creating collections that complemented home décor and featured warm-toned, durable pieces to place on the table direct from the oven.
When it comes to oven-to-tableware, Wedgwood Peach is a fine example of the style in Wedgwood’s Sterling shape. Decorated with branches bearing peaches and finished with a soft peach-coloured line around the rim, it captures both charm and functionality.
But Wedgwood didn’t stop there. Here are two more popular collections from the era that continue to stand out today…
Among Wedgwood’s first oven-to-table ranges was Wedgwood Pennine (1965–early 1980s). With a striking design, bold colour and sturdy appearance, this popular collection met the demand at the time for heavy duty, chip-resistant cookware that could both withstand the temperature of the oven and look right at home on the dining table.

Another much-loved collection from this era is Wedgwood Blue Pacific – Old Style (1969–1993). This range includes many handcrafted oven-to-tableware pieces in a gentle oatmeal colourway with teal blue accents. Collection highlights include flan and soufflé dishes, a variety of roasters and smart straight-sided casseroles, including a lidded soup bowl which doubles-up as an option for cooking and serving individual casseroles.

Wedgwood clearly had an eye on the future all those decades ago, as this revolutionary approach to cookware is at the heart of many a kitchen today. We have good stocks of all three Wedgwood collections, so take a look to see if there’s something to add to your oven-to-tableware for your next big gathering.
