Unnamed Vintage China

We stock some beautiful vintage china collections from a time when pattern naming wasn’t commonplace, leaving the design itself to tell the story, not the name.
The reason for ‘no name’ is often that the production run was too short or, simply, that the items were created at a time when naming and registering a collection wasn’t considered important. Pattern naming evolved as production increased, branding grew in importance, and manufacturers started applying backstamps to their chinaware.
Here, we’ve picked out four favourite English bone china ‘Unnamed’ collections.
Colclough Unnamed – Gold Lace is as intricate and beautiful as anything we’ve seen here at Chinasearch. Dainty flowers in a gold lace effect cover the majority of each item, complemented by an area of each item finished in a simple pastel blue.

A more classic floral theme can be seen with Queen Anne Unnamed – Red and Pink Roses. This bold pattern, combining a duo of big red and pink roses in full bloom with a single smaller budded pink rose, makes for a highly versatile tea set. (Just imagine tasty cream scones – or a variety of sandwiches – piled high in the centre of the cake plate!)

The Bell China Unnamed – Lilac and Narcissus collection is another elegant vintage china offering. Introduce a couple of key pieces from the collection to classic white dinnerware to create a perfect afternoon tea set. Lilac and narcissus nestle elegantly off crisp white bone china in this pattern, making this a desirable option.

Our final collection is truly special and has a standout description that sets the tone. Off a solid grass-green base colour, the ornate detailing of Crown Staffordshire Unnamed – Silk Flower adds a touch of sophistication through its luxurious description. The reverse of the sugar bowl and tea cup are white with a single gold line enhanced with a fine leaf pattern.

These special ‘Unnamed’ collections demand our attention through their high-quality manufacture and beautiful appearance, not through their pattern name. Perhaps this makes them even more attractive?
