Classic Shapes of Paragon

Paragon’s fine bone china collections are admired for their unmistakable elegance across classic shapes. Manufactured from the early 1900s, the brand became part of the Royal Doulton Group in 1972. In the years that followed, the Paragon brand was slowly phased out in favour of another Doulton brand, Royal Albert, with the Paragon name disappearing completely around 1991. Many patterns were eventually made under both the Paragon and the Royal Albert names.

Here we look at three Paragon shapes: Corinth, Elizabeth and Royal from 1985.

Corinth displays its Grecian inspiration through smooth lines and subtle fluting enhanced with symmetrical borders edged with gold or platinum. The Belinda pattern, on the Corinth shape, is Paragon’s bestseller and remains highly sought after today. Its gentle floral motifs are framed with a fine gold border. Another popular Corinth-shape pattern is Kensington, which is detailed with an elegant sage green band, gold filigree and a gold trim. Athena adorns the Corinth shape with an ornate decorative gold border.

The Elizabeth shape gains its grace from gentle curves and beautiful scroll handles, edged with gold or platinum. Victoriana Rose perfectly demonstrates the Elizabeth shape’s suitability for dainty patterns and delicate use of colour, with intricate pink roses in clusters and a gold trim along a fluted edge. The Meadowvale pattern presents pink and blue flowers in a band that flows gently around each piece within the collection.

Paragon’s Royal shape has gently scalloped edges complemented by ornate handles, creating a distinctive feel through magnificent styling and exotic patterns. Tree of Kashmir, on the Royal shape, couldn’t be more distinctive! Intricate detailing in the two-part band pattern, bold flowers in reds, blues, purples and yellows, and gold edging make this a standout collection like no other.
