Minton China – a name that means something to many. Kings, Czars and Shahs worldwide are among many in high society who have admired and bought Minton since Thomas Minton founded the Stoke-on-Trent company in 1793.

This 1980s Minton leaflet describes how, if invited to dinner at the British Embassy almost anywhere in the world, the meal will be enhanced by Minton China. Such acclaim came about through the outstanding artistry, craftsmanship and technical skills consistently brought together by Minton.

At this time, Minton China was an established part of the Royal Doulton Tableware Group, bringing advanced manufacturing and financial security to the craftspeople of Minton, and enabling the manufacturer to continue to make the finest English bone china in its Stoke-on-Trent factory for another decade.

Two Minton shapes – Fife and Granville – stand out for being the foundation of so many famous designs from the 1980s that have lasted incredibly well thanks to their exceptional quality.

On the sleek Granville shape, Minton Grasmere, Minton Summer Song and Minton Jasmine  all feature elegant floral bands and are trimmed in gold (Grasmere and Jasmine) or platinum (Summer Song).

The Fife shapes from that decade have a more eclectic appearance. Minton Shalimar makes a statement with its full ornate blue flower pattern, framed with a geometric border and edged in blue. The fluting of the Fife shape is more apparent with Minton Alpine Spring and Minton Ancestral, with pieces in these collections featuring delicate floral patterns and trimmed with gold. .
