• About Castelo Branco

  The Castelo Branco collection is inspired by the famous embroidery of Castelo Branco in Portugal, a unique and beautiful form of handicraft. Embroidery in this region holds a special place, enriched by Castelo Branco's strong linen tradition and abundant mulberry trees. The embroidery is done with silk thread on linen, using various styles of stitch, especially the defining slack stitch also known as the Castelo Branco. The designs, drawn from Renaissance and Baroque imagery, use yellow and blue colors to enhance the striking tableware pieces.

  The most prosperous time for embroidery was the 18th century. After a period of neglect, it re-emerged in the first quarter of the 20th century in the Castelo Branco region. The tableware in the Castelo Branco collection pays tribute to traditional Portuguese handwork, reproducing the weaving of delicate and elegant motifs in blue, with bright yellow contrasting against the whiteness of the porcelain.
