Wedgwood Strawberries
Strawberries, in all their glory, have featured prominently in Wedgwood’s pattern books over the centuries, making their first appearance on china in the mid-1770s. Following various style treatments for ‘the strawberry’ over the years, the Wild Strawberry pattern was created in 1964 and has since become one of Wedgwood’s best-selling collections.
Wedgwood Wild Strawberry is receiving the attention it deserves this year, as the brand celebrates 60 years of this whimsical and playful pattern. Featuring artful motifs of leaves, flowers and, of course, strawberries, it evokes the feeling of the quintessential English country garden. Whether brought out for summer afternoon teas or cosy soup and sandwiches in autumn, the pattern is a timeless symbol of signature Wedgwood elegance and charm.
With production spanning 60 years, certain pieces have naturally been discontinued over time, making them somewhat more interesting for admirers of Wild Strawberry. Our favourite at Chinasearch is the Wild Strawberry Sauce Boat Stand. An interesting choice, perhaps? We love how its handy shape and size make it ideal for serving pickles, olives or (you’ve guessed it) a few ripe and delicious strawberries – and we’re entering strawberry season now! Even though strawberries are beautiful on their own, they can be elevated with appropriate serveware and (obviously) a jug of cream on the side, just waiting to be poured.
In this celebratory year, Wedgwood has reimagined this much-loved classic with the launch of Wedgwood Wild Strawberry Inky Blue. The rich, deep inky blue chosen for this new colourway is synonymous with English fine bone china and contrasts in a bold and contemporary manner against the silky white body.
It’s a great look, and one we’re sure will appeal to both existing Wild Strawberry fans and those new to the intricate trailing vines, flowers and strawberries of this 60-year-old Wedgwood star.
