The Mason's Catalogue

It’s almost 25 years since this impressive Mason’s catalogue was published, just after the turn of the new millennium in 2001. Although the Ironstone collections shown within the brochure continued in production for a good number of years into the 21st century, sadly – just a decade later – they had all been retired.
Both beautiful and strong, Mason’s Ironstone is much loved, highly collectable and instantly recognisable, with its oriental-inspired patterns and distinctive shapes. Founded more than two centuries ago, this highly durable material is something special; the term ‘Ironstone’ is synonymous with Mason’s China. So strong was the original patented Mason’s Ironstone that intriguing uses include making fireplaces, four-poster beds and garden furniture.
We’re featuring the classics of Blue Mandalay, Chartreuse and Red Mandalay in this piece, which are all painted by hand and finished in 22-carat gold. At Chinasearch, we have stocks of many items, or will search for them free of charge, helping you to expand or complete your much-loved collections.
Mason’s Blue Mandalay is by far the most popular design, featuring a striking combination of oriental pattern and rich colour that never dates. This eternal favourite pattern was created by Miles Mason’s technically brilliant third son, Charles James Mason, who patented the original Mason’s Ironstone in 1813.

Adorned with the iconic Mandalay pattern, but in a rich green palette, is Mason’s Chartreuse. With tones of green replacing the blues and pinks of the original, Chartreuse reflects the era’s preference for more subtle shades to create a softer effect, one that adds a different dimension to Mason’s hugely popular signature collection.

Adding an exotic aspect to the collection is Mason’s Red Mandalay. The pattern combines warm and deep red tones and oriental shaping for standout pieces, which, over time, have become known for their suitability as romantic gifts. Bold red is one of the lesser-used colours within tableware design, but to see it used to perfection, take a look at Red Mandalay, enhanced with flourishes of gold.
Our team at Chinasearch are on hand to help you replace a treasured item or start collecting Mason’s Mandalay and Chartreuse patterns.
