  • Pattern Description

The A.B.C. range provides an exciting way to learn the alphabet and the time, featuring the alphabet in capital and lowercase letters along the rim and a clock face with Roman numerals and military time in the middle. The pattern was also produced in a pink and brown design.

The A.B.C engravings were acquired c.1960 from G.B. Scurfield, who ran a boutique style china shop in Cambridge. The design was thought to have originated in Scandinavia or to have been cut for that market. The Cambridge shop was the primary outlet, but the pattern was widely sold and did especially well in France. Adams & Sons was purchased by Wedgwood on 1st January 1966 and they continued to produce and design nurseryware; The popular A.B.C. range remained in production until the late 1980s.
